Alan Minter was a fearless British middleweight boxer from Bromley who achieved his defining moment in 1980 when he travelled to Las Vegas and defeated the legendary Vito Antuofermo to become the first British middleweight world champion in over 40 years. He successfully defended the WBC and WBA titles against Antuofermo in a rematch at Wembley before losing the belt to Marvin Hagler later that year in a famous and controversial bout. Minter was the British and European middleweight champion multiple times and remains one of the most respected British fighters of his generation.
