Frank McLintock was the inspirational captain of the great Arsenal Double-winning side of 1970/71, lifting both the First Division title and the FA Cup and cementing his place as one of the most important figures in the club's history. He had previously captained Arsenal to the League Cup final in 1968 and 1969, as well as the Fairs Cup victory in 1970, before leading the club to their greatest domestic achievement. A tenacious and commanding centre-back who had previously excelled as a midfielder at Leicester City, McLintock was named FWA Footballer of the Year in 1971 and was awarded the MBE that same year.
